North Carolina Triangle - What is it?

The North Carolina Triangle or RTP - What is it?

Some of you may know what it means when people refer to the Raleigh Durham area as "The Triangle". Many may not.  Basically, the Triangle was named because of the Three Big Universities and Towns that form a Triangle. Raleigh, NC with North Carolina State University (NCSU), Chapel Hill with University of North Carolina (UNC), and Durham with Duke University (Duke).  At the Durham County and Wake County border is RTP or Research Triangle Park. This area business park houses many large companies such as Cisco, IBM, GSK, Biogen, BASF, Credit Suisse, EMC, Net App, Dupont, Bayer, Fidelity Investments, RTI International, and more.

Our area is rapidly growing with folks moving from all over the US and other countries to work in Research Triangle Park, in Downtown Raleigh, in Durham, Duke, UNC, NCSU, and other local areas.

Our top industries are Healthcare & Medical Research, Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, Education & Research, Gaming, Film, Software & Information Technology, Defense, Aerospace & Aviation, Manufacturing, and Green & Sustainable Energy among others. Yes, many people are moving here for jobs, but, there's more.

Did you know North Carolina and in particular, the Triangle, is one of the fastest growing areas for Active Adults 55 and above? Our mild climate, thriving recreation & cultural events, healthcare, and low cost of living has earned the attention of folks from all age groups.

There are many lovely towns outside of the Big Three that make up the Triangle. One of the most well-known is Cary, NC. Convenient to all the Big Three towns and Research Triangle Park this town has grown by leaps and bounds. Plus, there's Morrisville, Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Wake Forest, Carborro, Pittsboro and several others.

There are Top Employers outside of RTP as well. In Cary, you'll find SAS, one of the Top Companies to work for. There's also Verizon, Kellogg's, Siemans, John Deere, Allscrips, Wake Med, Lord Corporation, Caterpillar, American Airlines Reservation Center and more.  In Apex, NC you'll find Lufkin and EMC2. Holly Springs has Novartis and Warp Technologies. Fuquay-Varina boost companies such as Fidelity, Bob Barker Company, Patriot State Bank, Southbend, Apex Instruments, and InServe Corporation. In Wake Forest you'll find Wireless Research Center of NC, CentruyLink, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Other Impressive Employers for the Triangle Area are Red Hat, Cree, BCBS, Lenovo, Duke University, First Citizens Bank, Health Services, Longistics, Misys Healthcare Systems, National Institute of Enviromental, News & Observer, Nortel, NC State University, Progress/Duke Energy, UNC, Quintiles, Rex Healthcare, Waste Industries, Wake County Public School System, Wake County Government, and The State of North Carolina.

North Carolina's population continues to grow at a rapid pace and 50% of the population growth is from other states and countries. I moved here from Florida in 1997 so I know what it is like to be new in this area. As a matter of fact, it can be hard to find someone who is actually from here.

Prices are rising in Maryland and retirees are thinking about moving south.  You should do a series on the active adult communities and the condos that are attractive for retirees in your area.

North Carolina is a favorite retirement location for Maryland retirees.

Carla I was not aware that it was called "the Triangle" by the locals as well as Why? Great Localism post and explanation.

fairfax county real estate agents Jan and Steve Bachman

The Triangle is awesome ...a great place to live. Many Northern Virginians are moving there because of all the virtues that Carla mentions.

Carla, although I know several agents in the triangle area, I've learned a few new things here.  Definitely worth a suggest for a very informative post.
