A first Impression is a lasting Impression! Not only is that what I've always been told but, have experienced. In many first time meetings, we often greet someone new with a handshake. So, why don't more people learn the proper way to shake hands?
So what's the big deal about a handshake anyhow? Do you know what your handshake says about you? Have you ever had a handshake so bad that it distracts you from what the person is saying? My least favorite is when you extend your hand for the "fail-safe" handshake and the other person gives you a limp handshake also known as the "Dead Fish" handshake. My second least favorite is the "Terminator"handshake that leaves you wondering if you need to get an X-ray. Then there's the "Queen" handshake - just who do they think they are anyhow?
So what does all this mean? Well, according to someEtiquette Experts, the "Dead Fish" handshake shows a lack of self-confidence and conveys weakness. This can also be a sign of a pessimist. I don't think that's what we what to convey as Realtors.
The Terminator handshake is a sign of aggression and covers up your feelings of insecurity.
The "Queen" handshake indicates superiority. It can also be an indication that the person is hiding something.
There are many other types of handshakes as well. Which is your least favorite?
Hopefully, we'll all be shaking hands with confidence!
