Many people relocating to the Triangle Area focus on school choices when choosing where they want to live. Cary NC has a strong reputation around the globe for excellent schools and high school scores. If there is one thing many parents are passionate about, it's sending their child or children to top rated schools.
A few basic things you should know about Triangle Area Schools is they are county based. If you live in Wake County, your child will attend a school in Wake County. Other counties such as Durham, Orange, Chatham, Johnston, Harnett, etc. are the same.
Wake County schools have traditional, year round, magnet and charter schools. Traditional schools are similar to the schedule many are accustom to. Year round schools are loosely based on 9 weeks in school and 3 weeks out of school. Neighborhoods with year round schools as their base, generally have a traditional school option that you can apply to. Year round schools have 3 - 4 tracks (schedules) and generally 3 of 4 tracks begin a new school year right after the July 4th holiday.
You should also be aware that on occasion, schools cap and no longer add students even if your home is zoned for that school. Students are then redirected to another school nearby. We ALWAYS recommend you contact the school board when purchasing a home based on school choice to confirm there is a spot for your child.
While school scores are important, I also suggest finding a school that is a good fit for your child not only based on scores but, other factors. The schools with the highest rated marching band or athletic teams may have good or great scores and not the very highest. If your student wants to study a specific language, you should find out which school offers that language. Many Wake County High Schools have specialty programs such as AOIT (Academy of Information Technology), Academy of Engineering, Health Sciences, STEM (science, technology, information and math), IB (International Baccalaureate) and other programs.
The good news is, there is lots to choose from and something for everyone.
So why is Middle Creek high school one of the best kept secrets?
The school itself is located in the Town of Cary and surrounded by lovely lush neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods are within walking distance to the school. Nearby neighborhoods may have a different town address (Apex or Raleigh for example) yet be zoned for Middle Creek high school.
The school is newer, not over crowded at this time. Middle Creek High School has great programs such as STEM, Digital Media Academy, and a large selection of Clubs and Organizaitons. They also boost their athletic programs with the parent run Mustang Club.
The town of Cary built a beautiful park and sports complex which it shares with Middle Creek High School. Middle Creek School Park is complete with a Community Center to service local residents. Middle Creek Park is 105 acres with multi-purpose athletic fields, disc golf, a playground, picnic areas, and walking trails.
